Cup and Saucer is one of our favorite breakfast hangs in town. Dan and Mark are the proprietors, and have some great and filling menu ideas including the Big Ben, the Wide Load, the Breakfast Burrito which rocks, and a create-it-yourself sandwich board with various homemade pestos. And the coffee… order the Fogbuster coffee. Dark and wakening.

They have a website, visit them here, and be sure to visit the Free Coffee Page

Tomorrow I’ll post a special offer for Bang on a Can folks… Prepare your mix cds for Cup and Saucer and perhaps get free coffee for the whole time you’re here! When you do go in, say hi to the staff and let them know you’re with Bang on a Can. They’re expecting you.

Chef’s Hat.  French bread French Toast.  mmmm…

Chef’s Hat is sort of a basic diner, you’d think. but there is plenty of good, original, well-cooked food coming from this kitchen.  one of the best breakfasts i’ve had in the area… i’ll go with you too, if you need a guide to get there…

but it’s really not so hard… here’s how you do it.  on weekdays OR weekends.  here’s how it goes from moca.  go out of the parking lot turning left, straight to river rd, your first left, turn left and proceed about 15 minutes on this same road until it dead ends at route 7.  turn right, and watch for chef’s hat on your left within a very short amount of time.  maybe 1/2 mile.  in any case, it’s on your left.

enjoy!

The prototype of the first EVER Bang on a Can Muffin will be comin’ out of the oven on Friday morning. the PHILIPPUFFIN, designed by our own Philippa Thompson, and made, cooked, perfected by Barry Garton, owner and chef of Brewhaha. It involves chocolate, pecans and banana with a special secret topping. Do stop by, pick up one, two, or three on Friday morning. and after you’ve tried it, throw down a comment on the blog on how you liked it, with a suggestion for ANOTHER possible Bang On A Can Muffin Recipe!

for menus and to get the feel of the place, visit Brewhaha’s website!

then go get a philippuffin…

For those of you who do have your cars up here. I’ll start this thread with this tickler…

we DO have good sushi up here. within 20 minutes, and the best sushi outside of New York within 1.5 hours.

also within 20 minutes are a few great breakfast places for the weekend, Indian and a ritzy top-scale joint, a nice greek place and a GREAT health food coop market.

more soon. i’ll fill this in as soon as i get a chance.

lickety split logoThis is the place you’ll become the most familiar with during your stay. and it’s a good thing. Tom and Kathy are your hosts, and they’ll feed you lunch and dinner nearly everyday. They pay real nice attention to our veggie and vegan folks, and you are the first bang crew to enjoy homemade ice cream on the premises every single day. In fact, i can assure you, this is the best ice cream in town, or in the berkshires, period. And i’m a common Sewer.. uh… connoisseur. You can enjoy freshly brewed loose tea in 6 varieties, the lemonade, orange juice and iced tea are freshly sqrewed. (squeezed or brewed), oh, adn did i mention the QUICHE?

The muffins are ready by 9.30 and the breakfast sandwiches kick serious booty, the coffee is great, and my favorite for dinner is the senegalese chicken stew. all the salad dressings are phenomenal, can’t go wrong there, and Tom, Kathy, Delores, Sarah and all of the other folks are simply the best. Make sure you get acquainted, and EAT LOTS OF ICE CREAM. did i mention the banglewood discount? oh, yeah, be sure you’re wearing your badge.

brewhaha logoLocated almost directly across the street from Mass Moca, just a few doors down from the Mohawk, Barry’s been cookin’ and brewin’ for close to five years now. For light fare, the granola with Stonyfield yogurt and bananas, or the steel cut oats with brown sugar, raisins, cinnamon and milk cannot be beat. Otherwise, all your standards have a little twist. Orange/Almond Peasant French Toast, the HUGE Blueberry Multigrain Pancake, and the Belgian Waffle with Melted Butter.

Finally, you’ve never had a breakfast sandwich, trust me, ‘til you’ve had these. Count ‘em , 8 completely different sandwiches, all with some combination of eggs, meats and cheeses you probably haven’t thought of before. You can substitute soy cheese, tofu, or soy sausage for a nominal, or no, charge.

Did I mention the Nutella, Peanut Butter and Banana Sandwich on 12 Grain? That one pretty near killed me. Really great for a breakfast dessert, to split, of course, after you haven’t eaten the night before. And, don’t forget, when you want to buy lunch, theyir Panini’s and Focaccia, soups and salad are just as rockin’.

see the North Adams Map to find it.

Hickory Bill's BBQSadly, yes, we say VERY sadly, Hickory Bill closed up shop last winter… in it’s place please find a new Brick-oven Pizza place i haven’t tried yet.  Want to write a review?  just lemme know…

Okay, BarbeQue up north here is pretty hard to come by. especially GOOD barbeque… Hickory Bill has been makin’ brisket and pork butt and ribs here in town for five years, before that in the surrounding area. One of the Gutbucket guys had him cater his wedding even! the spicy and regular sauce is fantastic, and the potato salad is great, and you can get everything from full plates to sandwiches. And Bill, well, he’s the one who will be cooking for you and serving you. Just don’t go and get your own soda out of the fridge! like you would in new york. i did that the first time i visited. Big Mistake. hospitality quotient is high…
