halfface_clouds_med_res.jpgA HUGE welcome to all you folks joining us at Bang On A Can’s Music Festival at MASSMoCA (Massachussetts’ Museum of Contemporary Art). If you’re joining us for the first time, or rejoining us for the second or third, we’re very happy you’re here. I’m Todd Reynolds, or Odd Todd, or Hot Toddy, whatever you wanna call me, no worries. This is our 5th year of the institute, and every year has been ‘better’ than the last. (like these things can actually be better or worse, they’ve all been fantastic.) It just seems that every year we’re here, we’re even more happy i guess. I personally have grown so attached to this place that i spent the last year writing, recording and basically taking a creative sabbatical up here, an idea which was always a dream of mine, now one year’s worth of a reality. It changed my outlook on things.

Anyway, i’ll be blogging here to post everything from places and things i find interesting here in town, to favorite haunts, restaurant reviews, ultimate electronic and computer music resources, improvisational resources and links which make me smile or think. Commenting is open, please feel free to participate as much or as little as you like. Use this, and me, as a resource at whatever level is useful to you.

I wish you such a great time while you’re here. It’s a team effort, a joint partnership between Bang On A Can and Mass MOCA Staff and Crew and you, our esteemed fellowes. We on staff value these three weeks so highly. This is our time to learn with you, learn from you, and share with you our experience and ways of working, all at the same time. And all in the midst of one of the best art institutions in the country, Mass MOCA. It’s the definition of an interdisciplinary experience. You’ll have unlimited access to view the exhibits and a good deal of access to performing in the galleries.

We’ve called it The Summer Institute, now we call it The Summer Music Festival, you’ll see it referred to as ‘Banglewood’ in the press, an entirely unofficial but respectful reference, and mostly we call it Good Clean Fun, what we hope is a one-of-a-kind opportunity to commune with Other Like Minds.

Speaking of Like Minds… soon we’ll get composer’s and performers from past years to post in a special section called Vett…

looking forward to meeting each of you…
